Some Random Babble about Mundane Things and my Son in a Pink Dress

So Scarlett’s birthday is tomorrow.
I went out today..nothing like the last minute momma, and bought her a bicycle. I hadn’t really intended to buy her a bike, but it turns out it is a good thing. I was thinking a new play kitchen as we ditched the defunct Barbie kitchen to the front porch where maybe some Sunday someone besides me might actually bring ot out to the curb, but man, those things are UGLY. So then I saw the bikes and thought..hmmm. SHe has a littel two wheller now with training whells, but it is too small for her and she hates it because it is blue. It was her cousins and he is a boy, hence the blue bike. It will be just perfect for Tristan though..and no more fighting over turns!!

So it is a mass of girly pinkness. Barbie with sparklier heats all over. But the best thing was that it was the last one..so a 69.99$ bike was 20 bucks plus the 10 dollars becasue it was the floor model and already put together. So less than half price and instant gratification!! Woohoo! The new helmet and pads almost cost more.

I also did the exciting go to PetSmart and stock up on the pet food. Seventy dollars later and I still wonder how we ended up with so many animals. Oh, right..that would be Rye! I actually bought cat food this time which is kinda silly as the cats seems to prefer the puppy chow, except for old Buttercup my primadonna. Plus the dog now knows how to open the basement door and go and eat the cat food. So I have cats eating dog food and dogs eating catfood. Why?

Then I bought the people food. I got to go ALONE which was so nice…. I food shop until I cannot balance anything more on my cart and people look at me funny, but there are alot of people in this house! Last time we went, Rye and the two little ones went with me. We had two carts and probably spent more money on food than anyone has a right to. I HATE when he goes shopping. The man is crazy. He will look at a blank pantry and tell me that I do not need to spend money on food because we have some. Like what? Baked beans? And then he will spend a week ordering Pizza and MickyD’s ..which does not save money. And then buy 20 dollars worth of Salmon and a 17 dollar steak for just him. I could kill him. Anyway..last time we spent almost SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS on food. The reciept was as long as both my arms could stretch and I saved it and showed it to everyone at work, it was so nuts.

I actually remembered to get the stuff to make Scarlett’s cup cake for school tomorrow and her cake. I have to do the cupcakes shortly. Yeah, last minute. And of course I feel kinda sorta bad as I have done NOTHING to plan for her party. I did that with Tristn’s birthday this year too. I think I am a horrible mother when it comes to the kids birthday parties, but I just hate them. I was thiniing of a dress up tea party type theme, but…did nothing. And now…it’s real late. So I suck. More fodder for their theraphy when they get older.

My mop dissapered, so I bought a new mop. I am not sure how exactly a mop disspaears, but it did. It was stinky anyhow.

And I have already made a dent in the laundry pile from hell. I had to be nasty and tell Evan that I was in contol of the washer right now and hands off. Damn thing has been sitting empty all weekend, and NOW that I decide it is time, he has to do his laundry? Nah, I don’t think so dude. He found a place, thank God, and is moving out of the attic this weekend I hope. He’s not a bad kid, but enough already. It is like having another kid around and he doesn’t really contribute. It just makes one more person to have to clean up after..and it’s bad enough when the slobs are your own kids, or your husband, but some random person whose pubs you have to clean up out of the shower drain?? Icky.

So I will continue to be super mom today. Work on laundry, make the cupcakes AND I already have chop meat out for meatloaf for tonight. Tomorrow I have off for her Bday..though I keep on forgetting. I work only Wednesday and Friday ths week, but I have court on Thursday..which reminds me..I have to call Bethany to babysit or I will be stuck bringing them?? Could be interesting.
But oh wait, the Saab is still making a bad grinding noise becasue as Rye just bothered to find out today, the brake pad feel off two weeks ago. Now why couldn’t he have looked at it when I asked him to over two weeks ago? Oh because that would be too easy. And it is better to say just drive slow and make a really bad noise rather than fix the damn car. And now the rotor needs to be replaced. Yeah! And is the car in the shop? Nooooooo

Plus I have that lameo exterior house sketch/elevation to work on for crazy Barbara. And I really don’t want to because to means I have to actually clean my desk so I can find the room to work.

Ok..now the kids are playing dress up and Tristan is putting on a dress..again. A pink frilly dress because he wants to. And I let him and his father is gonna kill me. hee hee. I think I’ll take a picture! Where’s my camera??

Ha! They just crack me up!

Musings of the Lame was started in 2005 primarily as a simple blog recording the feelings of a birthmother as she struggled to understand how the act of relinquishing her first newborn so to adoption in 1987 continued to be a major force in her life. Built from the knowledge gained in the adoption community, it records the search for her son and the adoption reunion as it happened. Since then, it has grown as an adoption forum encompassing the complexity of the adoption industry, the fight to free her sons adoption records and the need for Adoptee Rights, and a growing community of other birthmothers, adoptive parents and adopted persons who are able to see that so much what we want to believe about adoption is wrong.

  1. Kids, you gotta love ’em! What a cute photo!

  2. Happy Birthday to little Scarlett, she will be so excited about her bike. What a gorgeous photo. I always send my husband off to choose a wine for himself to prevent him putting strange things into the basket. It always costs twice as much if he comes to the supermarket with me!

  3. that picture is nothing short of PRICELESS

  4. LOVE that picture!!!!!!!!

  5. Happy Birthday Miss Scarlett!

I so hear you on the shopping thing – if hubby comes with we never leave with less than $350 worth of stuff in the cart. And it always ends up being things that are going to take me an entire day to cook. “Hey, lets get a turkey (or ham, or roast) and all the fixin’s!” But as much as I complain, I really don’t mind – I love mid-year “thanksgiving” and “easter” and “christmas” dinners too.

One of my favorite things to do is to buy four of the largest turkey breasts I can find (real ones, not those “processed meat product” things) and cook them up all at once in a huge roasting pan in individual Reynolds cooking bags. A full turkey never provides enough of the meat we like – no one ever eats the drumsticks or wings, major waste – but the breast meat is perfect for turkey dinner, turkey salad, turkey sandwiches and turkey soup!

Ok, now I’m hungry. Guess what I’ll be cooking this weekend? LOL

By the way, if you have any more formatting issues, let me know – I’m happy to help however I can!

  6. I adore the name Scarlett… conjures up a sassy Vivien Leigh image that’s not too unpleasant!

And… yah!!! The cat/dog food thing… I have the SAME problem… my two cats prefer the dog food and vice versa… I wonder if there’s really that much difference between the two…

  7. Darling children !!
I wandered in here from googling a term and had to see what this is about. I have been reading adoption.com and posting there for a few months now and I so desperately need something different than that place. It is like Stepford adoptees or something.
I am an adoptees, a half adoptee (mum adopted me)and it is so refreshing to see some like minded thoughts here.
