Adoption “Safe” Maternity Homes

Family Preservation Programs and Services for Pregnant Women Across the USA

Maternity homes and programs geared towards helping a mother parent her baby when in crisis or unplanned. Adoption is not the goal of these family preservation programs, but support, education and empowerment for mothers and their babies.

Most of the programs listed below are truly geared towards keeping a mother and child together. Many of them are programs that are not quick fixes but provide support needed for a few years. Most of those are targeting younger mother, teen mothers facing a teenage pregnancy, but not all. Some programs are more geared towards a homeless mother or teen, but should not be written off even if you have housing and especially if the pregnancy can cause the housing to change.

There are a few that provide maternity home services, IE a place for a women to live while pregnant, IF she plans on relinquishing her child to adoption. While that ‘”adoption options” is NOT recommended here, those programs have been included as the rest of the support offered is beneficial to parenting. There are a few other programs that indeed MIGHT offer adoption as an option.

While there is an attempt at vetting these programs, there is unfortunately no way to guarantee that somewhere along the line adoption might be mentioned. If by any chance your experience is different than what you were lead to believe here, please by all means, let us know here and feel free to comment with your point of view. It is VERY valuable.

Support for Women and Mothers Facing an Unplanned Pregnancy Crisis

The programs are listed below by state. Some are local only and some are more national. The specifics for each are listed so you can get a quick overview at a glance, but each will link to its own page with more information.

Make sure you check out and apply to the state level social services and assistance offered to you as well, though help and guidance with that is often part of what many of these programs offer.

In addition to these maternity programs, you are encouraged to look for the additional programs and services in your state. Even if you do not fit into the criteria for one program, it is suggested that you get in touch with any that are local anyway. The folks I these organizations are doing this work all the time and most likely know of additional resources and programs that you might benefit from.

HOW TO USE THIS LIST:

Claud, there is another one in NY, here in Syracuse. It’s only been operational 2-3 years, and is Catholic-based (and so, is providing an alternative to abortion, but not to parenting!). They keep women/girls up to 2 years, I believe, with their babies…helping them get their adult, parenting lives underway–complete with rides to job interviews, jobs, dr appts, etc. They teach necessary life skills, and everyone attends mass in the house. Joseph’s House…they are doing an amazing job! http://jhfw.org/ and… https://www.facebook.com/JosephsHouseSyr/?fref=ts
