ADULT ADOPTEES 18+ PLEASE PARTICIPATE IN OUR SURVEY!

“Beyond Culture Camp: Promoting Healthy Identity

Formation in Adoption”

A Project by the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute

with funding from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation

Recently we had sent an email requesting ADULT ADOPTEES 18+ — ESPECIALLY INTERNATIONALLY ADOPTED ADULTS — to participate in our national online survey for our ground-breaking study on identity and adoption.

If you have already completed the online survey THANK YOU! If you have not taken the survey or have not yet completed the survey PLEASE DO SO TODAY! The online survey will be available only until January 31, 2007.

WE ARE SEEKING 300 PARTCIPANTS AND WE ARE ONLY HALF THERE! WE ESPECIALLY NEED MORE ASIAN ADOPTEES AND WE NEED MORE MEN TO PARTCIPATE!!

This project involves a national Internet survey of internationally adopted adults 18+ who have been raised in transracial families (and a comparison group of domestically adopted adults raised in same-race families) in order to learn – from those who know best – how to promote and sustain a positive identity that incorporates race, culture and adoption. This is one of the first time extensive data will be collected on adult adopted people and it is our belief that our understanding of the collective experiences will truly help to accurately inform and effectively make positive changes in the adoption field THUS YOUR PARTICIPATION IS VITAL!

Musings of the Lame was started in 2005 primarily as a simple blog recording the feelings of a birthmother as she struggled to understand how the act of relinquishing her first newborn so to adoption in 1987 continued to be a major force in her life. Built from the knowledge gained in the adoption community, it records the search for her son and the adoption reunion as it happened. Since then, it has grown as an adoption forum encompassing the complexity of the adoption industry, the fight to free her sons adoption records and the need for Adoptee Rights, and a growing community of other birthmothers, adoptive parents and adopted persons who are able to see that so much what we want to believe about adoption is wrong.

    Those engaged in promoting adoption should not be in charge of doing studies on adoptees as they will be biased, and will do nothing but promote what these people want – which is more adoptees to be taken for their clients.
