Saturday AdoptionLand Recap October 5th, 2013

What’s  Happening in AdoptionLand this Week

Gah. I apologize for doing this, but maybe it’s a good idea. I have to go food shopping and Kingston is Burning today, so I won’t be attached to my computer quite as much and then, there are things happening that I MUST work on!!

But I want to make sure that you see:

Why Adoption Needs to Play a Bigger Role in the Reproductive Justice Conversation

The RH Reality Check article;   I spoke with author Andrea Grimes a few weeks ago about the horrible proposed Texas bill by Senator Lucio that would require Texans seeking abortions to take three hours of adoption counseling before being allowed to have an abortion.  Andrea also spoke to with Amanda from The Declassified Adoptee and Kathryn Joyce author of The Child Catchers and from that, while it starts out about this stupid bill, she has managed to capture so many excellent points as to why adoption in USA is troubling and unethical.
Please support this piece by sharing and commenting! This is how we show that these conversations are important and help others become aware!

Adopting a Child in America: What “Baby Veronica” Teaches Us About the Adoption Process

Over at The Toast, I wrote a guest piece using the forced adoption of Veronica Rose Brown, to frame many of the ethical concerns in the adoption industry today.  I am thrilled to be able to branch out to a new format and sincerely appreciate the Toast for their openness to take this on! Plus it was a real pleasure to work with Mallory.

Comments are really favorable for the most part, but it opens great discussion so please ad you voice and help the education process! Again, you know the drill. Please support this piece by sharing.

COMING UP: I think next week the Round table discussion I did with Liberty,  Adoptee, Editor, & Race Matters Columnist over at The Lost Daughters and Megan Lindsey, the Director of Public Policy and Education at the National Council For Adoption  will be published over at In These Times Believe it or not it was actually a great conversation, and I thank Jessica Stites for making it happen! What is really appreciate is the ability to be at the same table with the industry experts and that an adoptee and birthmother were given equal voice.

If you haven’t found your way over to the STOP CHIFF page on Facebook, please do!!   There are great articles and posts coming out against CHIFF and to make it easier for all to catch up, I did create a new Listly on the Children In Families Fist Act Opposition posts, Get reading, get posting and feel free to add your voice!

And Vote for the 2013 Demons in Adoption Awards over at Pound Pup Legacy!!
