Philomena, Philomena, Philomena!

Adoption Movie Judy Dench plays birthmother

What Happens When an Adoptee, a Birthmother and a Kept Sibling Go to the Movies?

Adoption Movie Judy Dench plays birthmotherYup. Those are my plans for this evening. Adoption movie date at 6pm to go see Philomena with Lola and Joanie. Must remember tissues!!

If you haven’t heard the buzz yet, “Philomena” is a big deal in AdoptionLand; we don’t often get the likes of Dame Judy Dench playing the part of a birthmother! Maybe I should send her a Crack Whore Birth Mother shirt? I have not read much of the reviews either in or out of AdoptionLand as I like to have an open mind while expecting that Hollywood will, somehow, annoy me.

I did watch the trailer when it first made the rounds and am quite excited in any case.

I’m trying to think of some way that I can record our after conversation of the film as having the three different viewpoints should be interesting! In any case, expect a rambling review!

Speaking of Philomena; Any Peeps in Florida?

I know this is last minute, but wanted to make sure that I called attention to this:

I was alerted yesterday of a group film discussion in the Sarasota, Florida area surrounding the film “Philomena”. It’s at 7pm at The Unitarian Universalist Church of Sarasota 3975 Fruitville Road, Sarasota, FL 34232 941-371-4974.

Now this might NOT be a bad thing as I have no idea what her views are, but…

The discussion is being lead by a retired social worker and adoptive parent.  Her name is Judy Helgager and she might very well be extremely understanding and wonderful.  Again, I do not know and I have done pretty much nothing to find out any differently; however.. it would be REALLY good if there were actual adoptees and actual birthmothers there just in case some adoption propaganda grenades need to be thrown.

I hope  that this will be a well balanced forum for discussion with all members of the triad represented, so if there is any chance that you can get there, please, go represent if you can!
